The New York Times, and several other news organizations were reportedly banned from the White House press briefing on Friday. Many veteran journalists are understandably outraged by the development because the move seemed to be in retaliation for stories that the Trump administration didn’t like. The controversial gaggle was held in White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer‘s office. “This is an unacceptable development by the Trump White House,” CNN said in a statement. On top of being unacceptable, the move by the White House may also be illegal and unconstitutional. It is one thing for the Trump campaign or even the DNC to ban certain journalists from rallies or press conferences. But, Trump is now the President, and as a government official, he answers to the taxpayers and the Constitution.“It’s unconstitutional when President Trump has said he doesn’t like CNN and … [Read more...] about Trump’s Ban of Reporters at Press Briefing Isn’t Just Wrong, It’s Unconstitutional

Jeff Sessions reportedly refuses to quit as attorney general despite getting publicly chewed out by President Donald Trump.“Sessions is totally pissed off about it,” a Sessions ally familiar with his thinking told The Daily Beast in a Tuesday report. “It’s beyond insane. It’s cruel and it’s insane and it’s stupid.”Trump lashed out at the AG two days in a row. That’s a hell of a thing to say about your employee. In public, no less. It doubles down on Trump’s interview with The New York Times, published Wednesday, in which he went after Sessions for his decision to recuse himself from the Trump/Russia probe.“Sessions should have never recused himself, and if he was going to recuse himself, he should have told me before he took the job and I would have picked somebody else,” the president said. The AG’s allies told The Beast that Trump’s criticism is simply counterproductive because Sessions is one … [Read more...] about ‘Pissed’ Sessions Refuses to Quit Despite Trump’s Criticism, Ally Says
White House request to knock down recent stories of a Trump-Russia link. Many, who are certain that Trump is a puppet of the Kremlin, have pointed to this as proof that there is truth to the claims that President Donald Trump‘s campaign advisors communicated regularly to the Russians during the 2016 presidential campaign. But, in reality, the FBI’s lack of response proves absolutely nothing about that. In my opinion, that is a non-story. The alarming story is that the Trump administration even asked the FBI to do such a thing if indeed that is what happened. Not only did the White House violate decades-old procedures that limit communications with the FBI on ongoing investigations, the move was unethical. Some legal scholars have even gone so far as to say it could amount to obstruction of justice as well. That is a crime.According to the CNN report, White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus was trying to dispute … [Read more...] about Did Trump’s White House Just Obstruct Justice? Some Legal Experts Think So.
President Donald Trump has railed against information leaks to the media that have led to a variety of stories about the inner workings of his administration, as well as the Russia investigation. He has referred to such leaks as illegal, as they occasionally deal with sensitive government material. Of course, while POTUS gets mad when stories based on these leaks from unnamed sources appear in “fake news” outlets like CNN, The New York Times, or The Washington Post, he went out of his way to retweet one by his cable network of choice, Fox News. The story that President Trump retweeted is about North Korea missile testing, and cites “U.S. officials with knowledge of the latest intelligence in the region.” One quote was even attributed to “one official who requested anonymity to discuss sensitive information. ”If that doesn’t sounds like a leak of classified information from unnamed sources, I don’t know what does.So why … [Read more...] about Apparently President Trump Doesn’t Mind Leaks if Used By Fox News
President Donald Trump chewed out Attorney General Jeff Sessions and told him to resign because of Robert Mueller‘s appointment to special counsel, The New York Times reported Thursday. Sources, which were described as “current and former administration officials and others briefed on the matter” told the outlet that Trump blamed Mueller’s appointment on Session’s decision to recuse himself from the FBI’s investigation into Russia’s election interference. The president reportedly insulted the AG, accusing him of “disloyalty.”Four people briefed on the meeting reportedly said that during this May meeting in the oval office, Sessions said he would quit, and later issued a resignation letter. Trump didn’t accept it because senior administration officials told him that getting rid of Sessions would cause trouble for the administration, especially after the firing of National Security Adviser Michael … [Read more...] about Trump Chewed out Jeff Sessions Over Mueller Appointment, Report Says
President Donald Trump attacked Senator Bob Corker in a series of tweets Tuesday morning, prompting the Tennessee Republican to give a no-holds-barred interview with CNN’s Manu Raju soon after. If the 10-year GOP Senate veteran’s feelings are any indication, establishment Republicans may be turning on the Commander-in-Chief.“I think many of us, me included, have tried to, you know, intervene, and I have had a private dinner and have been with him on multiple occasions to try and create some kind of aspirational approach, if you will, to the way that he conducts himself,” Corker told Raju. “I don’t think that that’s possible. He’s obviously not going to rise to the occasion as president.”And that was probably the nicest thing he said about Trump.“I think at the end of the day, when his term of over, I think the debasing of our nation, the constant non-truth-telling, the name-calling … will be what … [Read more...] about Trump-Corker Feud Could Be a Sign We’re Headed Towards Impeachment
took a meeting from someone claiming evidence of foreign corruption by Hillary Clinton. The meeting proved useless. Donald Trump Jr. released the emails leading to the meeting. It is clear from the documents and statements of all involved that Donald Trump Jr. did nothing wrong. He broke no law. This isn’t like Hillary Clinton’s husband soliciting donations disguised as speech payments, travel costs, and charity work, while Hillary was Secretary of State. Based solely on the fact the source of the information was a Yeltsin-era prosecutor from Russia, a few anti-Trump lawyers falsely accuse Trump Jr. of a crime.American law imposed no restrictions on foreign donations for almost all of its history until that ethical icon Lyndon Baines Johnson was President. Then, after Watergate, those restrictions on foreign funding of American elections was mostly enacted through incorporation of Watergate-era reforms. Exceptions always existed: only cash donations, or the like, were … [Read more...] about Why Donald Trump Jr. is Innocent. Period.
Former FBI Director James Comey is expected to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee that President Donald Trump pushed him to end an investigation into ex-National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, CNN reports. A source told the outlet that it will be public, and may happen as soon as next week.Trump fired Comey on May 9, ostensibly for doing a bad job leading the FBI. This decision attracted criticism and skepticism because of its timing: the feds are investigating the president’s campaign for alleged collusion with Russia in winning the 2016 election. Investigators have a probe into Flynn’s ties with Moscow as well.According to a New York Times report from May 16, they obtained one of Comey’s memos. In it, he claimed Trump pressured him to drop the probe into Flynn.“I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go,” Trump allegedly said. The president has criticized the … [Read more...] about James Comey Will Testify Trump Pushed Him to End Flynn Investigation, Report Says
Donald Trump has made a lot of out-there statements during his campaign, almost all of of which have been heavily scrutinized. However, there’s one in particular that’s raised the ire of long-time Republican lobbyist Jack Burkman, to the point that he sent Attorney General Loretta Lynch a letter (PDF) requesting that she have Trump investigated for political corruption. Burkman is concerned with Trump’s tendency to brag that anyone he’s donated to is at his beck and call. For example, there was this exchange during CNN’s Republican debate on August 6th of last year (emphasis ours):Q: You’ve also supported a host of other liberal policies, you’ve also donated to several Democratic candidates, Hillary Clinton included, Nancy Pelosi. You explained away those donations saying you did that to get business related favors. And you said recently, quote, when you give, they do whatever the hell you want them to do.TRUMP: You better … [Read more...] about GOP Lobbyist Sends DOJ Letter Demanding Probe of Trump’s ‘Quid Pro Quo’ Donations
